The full story

Sugarcane farmers across Karnataka, including in Belagavi, launched a multi-day protest involving highway blockades and a padayatra to demand better pricing for their crops. Organised by groups including Hasiru Sene, the protesters blocked key routes such as the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway and National Highway 50 to press for the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations. The agitation, which included a mock funeral procession for Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, continued for a week. Following post-midnight negotiations on October 19 with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and other legislators, the farmers agreed to temporarily suspend their protest. They have issued an ultimatum to the government to address their demands by November 26, warning of further action, including a gherao of the minister's residence, if their requirements remain unmet.
