The full story

On November 4, 2026, between 150 and 200 employees of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) gathered in front of the Ministry of Finance in Bucharest to demand the payment of salary rights established by final court rulings. According to the Sindicatul din Institutul Național de Statistică București (SINSB), these payments, which were supposed to be staggered over five years, were frozen for 2025 and excluded from the 2026 budget. Union leader Dan Iliescu stated that the arrears amount to approximately 12,000 to 15,000 lei per employee. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the ministry, citing a lack of response to their requests since May. The union has indicated that further actions will be determined if their demands remain unaddressed by the authorities.
