The full story
On October 27, 2026, Congress MLAs in Chandigarh staged a protest outside the Punjab Legislative Assembly after being blocked from entering the premises. Dressed in black robes and holding placards, the legislators burned brooms, which serve as the election symbol of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and raised slogans against the government's policies. The demonstration followed an entry blockade and an altercation involving lawmakers from both parties. Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and other Congress leaders condemned the restrictions as unprecedented and unauthorized, questioning the legality of the entry notices. In response, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the opposition of creating disruptions and lacking genuine issues, while ruling party ministers criticized the protest actions. The entire Congress contingent ultimately boycotted the final day of the Vidhan Sabha session.
