The full story

Student and high school associations scheduled a demonstration in central Copenhagen to oppose government plans to reduce public study grants and tighten graduate unemployment benefits. The proposed budget measures would eliminate or reduce the SU student allowance for students living at home based on parental income, while requiring graduates to work for 18 months during their final 24 months of education to qualify for unemployment benefits. Organizers stated the measures penalize young people to fund increased defense spending. Eleven student associations launched the protest under the slogan “Enough is enough.” Organizers expected 10,000 students to gather at City Hall Square before marching to Christiansborg Palace Square outside Parliament, with thousands more walking out of classes across multiple institutions nationwide. Copenhagen Police announced a visible presence to protect the right to demonstrate and maintain safety.
