The full story

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) led a multi-day protest in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over a contentious voter list revision. Demonstrations met with heavy security restrictions, road closures, and large-scale preventive detentions of thousands of protesters and opposition leaders, including chief ministers and members of parliament. CJP leaders were initially detained upon landing at the airport and later released on bond. Clashes and arrests also occurred after video footage showed individuals assaulting demonstrators near DDU Marg, leading police to arrest four members of the Hindu Raksha Dal. The UN human rights office expressed concern over the mass detentions, prompting a sharp rebuke from India's foreign ministry.
