The full story

More than 150 MBBS students of Government Medical College in Maheshwaram, alongside their parents, resumed their protest over inadequate basic infrastructure, safe hostel accommodations, and transport. Operating out of temporary premises in Mangalpally since November 2024, students reported safety concerns regarding female students facing eve-teasing along the walk to the campus, a lack of compound walls, dependence on private hostels, and the absence of a dedicated college bus, library, and sports facilities. Students had previously boycotted classes and clinical postings from October 12 to 25, calling off an earlier demonstration following discussions at the district collector's office that yielded no written assurances. Opposition BRS leaders, including T Harish Rao and Sabitha Indra Reddy, visited the protest camp to express support and criticise the government over the poor conditions.
