The full story

Madhya Pradesh Government Railway Police detained students and activists traveling from Pune to New Delhi at Itarsi railway station. The travelers, affiliated with the All India Students Federation and other groups, intended to participate in a demonstration called by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and electoral reforms. Organisers and participants alleged that police forcibly removed them from the Goa Express train without permission and subjected them to mistreatment, confining them in a private resort instead of a police station. Police stated the detention was based on orders from above under Section 172 of the BNSS because the protesters lacked permission. Following a habeas corpus petition, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the state to produce the students by October 13, after which authorities released them on Friday evening.
