The full story

Students of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata have announced a nationwide movement starting October 27, calling on educational institutions across the country to join them. The protests stem from campus confrontations and alleged attacks by outsiders on September 27 and October 4, as well as actions taken by the administration against students. Protesters are demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, an investigation into the campus attacks, and the protection of academic freedom and democratic rights. In response, SRFTI registrar Deepak Kumar stated that the Dean's Council recommended rusticating six students following evidence of obstruction, intimidation, and physical assault on the vice-chancellor.
