The full story

Cypriot dockworkers staged demonstrations at the ports of Limassol and Larnaca as part of the second International Day of Action for Dockworkers under the slogan "Ports for Peace". Organised by the port workers' union Segdamelin-Peo, the actions coincided with participation from unions across more than 100 ports on four continents against Israel's war in Gaza. The union stated that port infrastructure should not be used to transport military equipment and argued that workers should not bear the costs of war. In addition to calling for an end to militarisation and what unions described as genocide against Palestinians, the organisers demanded decent wages, secure employment, collective agreements, and enhanced health and safety measures. The protests were supported by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement and various international and Palestinian trade unions.
