The full story

On Wednesday afternoon, around 30 activists gathered on the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge to protest an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shooting earlier in the month involving Oscar Belgal in the Bronx. Wearing shirts with slogans like "Sanctuary Campus Now" and holding banners that read "Stop Shooting Us" and "Stop Shooting Our Neighbors," the demonstrators sat cross-legged and blocked vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Participants chanted slogans against law enforcement and demanded that ICE leave New York City, release Belgal from federal custody, and called for the resignation of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. The action caused significant disruptions for motorists trying to get to work or pick up their children from school. According to authorities, police officers issued dispersal orders, cleared the area, and took about 14 individuals into custody.
