The full story

Education ministry support programme workers in Nicosia are planning a march to the presidential palace to demand the protection of their income and rights, and the immediate fulfillment of commitments. Organised by trade unions SEK and PEO, the participants will gather at the finance ministry at 3 pm before marching. According to the unions, the education ministry has failed to implement a government-proposed and parliament-approved law from April that establishes specific hiring procedures. The unions stated that this failure has left several employees unemployed, resulted in fixed-term positions being filled by overtime-appointed staff, and left workers without pay for five months or access to unemployment benefits.
