The full story

Dozens of veterans, their families, activists and Democratic lawmakers gathered at Memorial Circle in Washington, D.C., on October 1 to protest President Donald Trump's proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. Billed as 'Vets over Vanity', the event was organised in part by Public Citizen, which is leading a lawsuit filed by Vietnam War veterans against the project. Speakers objected to the arch's scale, cost, lack of congressional authorisation and its closeness to the cemetery, standing beside a tarp mock-up they said was 32 times smaller than the planned structure. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Jeff Merkley and Representative Don Beyer attended.
