The full story
On October 15, 2026, the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the Congress party, and other constituents of the INDIA bloc staged a demonstration in Chennai at Ramada Circle on Langs Garden Road in Egmore. Organised by Congress MP B Manickam Tagore and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), the 'Protect Democracy' agitation marked TVK's first participation in an anti-CEC protest since joining the opposition alliance. Participants gathered to condemn alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, raising slogans and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Leaders from seven constituent parties attended the event, which took place amid a political backdrop involving a widened rift between Congress and the DMK.
