Protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar have been held in Chennai since October 1. CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam led a Left parties' demonstration near Washermanpet, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision was being used to delete targeted voters and demanding the CEC's resignation or impeachment. On October 2 the Cockroach Janta Party's Tamil Nadu unit protested near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. On October 3 the ruling TVK formally joined the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu at a meeting in Chennai, and the alliance decided to hold district-level demonstrations against the CEC; Times of India reported a protest is planned for October 15.
