Activists and student leaders participating in the “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest march in Delhi were detained by police on October 16, 2026. The demonstration, which took place near Mandi House, was organized to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India. According to reports, student leader Neha Bora and another activist were picked up by law enforcement during the march. Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that the detention followed a troubling pattern of police excess and failure to follow standard detention protocols. The detained student leader was eventually released the following morning.
