The full story
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) initiated a 48-hour total shutdown in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district following the disappearance of two young men from the Kuki-Zo community, who are feared to have been abducted. The missing youths, identified in reports as residents of Taphou Kuki village, allegedly went missing while travelling between Hengbung and Taphou Kuki villages. CoTU criticized the government and security forces, accusing them of a security lapse and discriminatory treatment in responding to security incidents affecting different communities. During the shutdown, markets, offices, educational institutions, and vehicles were expected to remain closed, while medical services, media, and security forces were exempted. Organizers warned of intensifying their agitation if the youths are not safely released.
