The full story

Port workers and activists organized a strike and picket in Livorno against the handling of military cargo aboard the US-flagged vessel Alliance Norfolk. Prompted by the movement of desert-painted US military vehicles through the city toward the port, the Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) and the Gruppo Autonomo Portuali (GAP) initiated a protest starting on the evening of November 4 with a vigil at the Valessini gate, followed by an immediate workers' strike. The demonstrators aimed to block the loading of heavy tactical trucks, tank transporters, and air defense command components. According to the union and local reports, the ship eventually departed from the port without carrying out the scheduled operations. Mayor Luca Salvetti had earlier submitted a formal inquiry to the Prefecture regarding the safety and nature of the transport.
