The full story

Thousands of farmers from across multiple districts in Maharashtra began a march toward Mumbai to demand comprehensive drought relief and agricultural policy changes. Organised by the All India Kisan Sabha, the participants walked and traveled in a vehicular convoy from locations such as Igatpuri and Akole along the Nashik-Mumbai highway toward Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The protest follows a monsoon deficit and subsequent drought declarations across 305 talukas in the state. Protesters pressed demands including financial assistance for crop losses, broader farm loan waivers covering prompt loan repayers, legal land titles for forest and temple land cultivators, and regular disbursement of government scheme benefits. In response, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis arranged to meet a farmer delegation, and the state government previously announced advance festival payments and a ₹17,500 crore interim relief proposal submitted to the Centre.
