Parents and various student organisations, including the All India Independent Scheduled Castes Association, All India Students’ Federation, and All India Students’ Association, have been protesting following the death of a 20-year-old BTech student at IIT Bombay on September 18. The demonstrations, which included hunger strikes at Azad Maidan and gatherings outside the IIT Bombay campus in Powai, mark a month since the student's death. Protesters and the family are demanding the arrest of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla and IIT Bombay Director Shireesh B. Kedare, who were named in an FIR invoking the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and abetment of suicide. They also demand a transparent inquiry, protection against caste discrimination, and a meeting with the head of the institute’s Board of Governors.
