The full story

Students at IIT Bombay have protested for over two weeks over the death of a second-year B.Tech student, who was found dead in his hostel room on September 18. The family has alleged caste discrimination; Hindustan Times reported he had allegedly been caught cheating in an exam before his death. The student's parents began a hunger strike at Mumbai's Azad Maidan in late September, joined by Mumbai Youth Congress and student federation members, demanding the arrest of a professor against whom an FIR has been registered and of the institute's director. On October 2 about eight students began a hunger strike on the Powai campus. Police later denied the parents permission to continue at Azad Maidan, and the father planned to go to the campus instead. The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating and has questioned the professor.
