The full story
IG Metall union members have initiated a series of warning strikes across Bavaria as part of a contentious collective bargaining round for the metal and electrical industry. According to the union, the industrial action involved 16,000 employees on the fourth day of the strike wave, with 3,000 participants reported at the BMW facility in Munich. The union is seeking a five percent wage increase. In response, the employers' association vbm has criticized the strikes, with chief executive Bertram Brossardt describing the union's approach as unnecessary "class struggle rhetoric." Employers have proposed a one-time payment of one percent for 2027 and a 1.3 percent increase for 2028, citing concerns over international competitiveness. Union leader Horst Ott stated that the union intends to increase pressure on employers in the coming days.
