The full story
On November 3, 2026, journalists across Balochistan observed a 'Black Day' in response to a call from the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ). The protest, which also commemorated the 2007 emergency, addressed issues including media censorship, unpaid salaries, and the closure of news bureau offices. In Quetta, the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) organized a sit-in outside the Quetta Press Club, supported by labor unions, human rights activists, and legal professionals. Speakers at the event described the closure of approximately 10 news bureaus as an 'economic massacre' that has left around 150 media workers unemployed. Participants wore black armbands and hoisted black flags to symbolize their grievances regarding the current state of press freedom and the economic challenges facing media professionals in the province.
