The full story
Readymade garment workers blocked several major roads and intersections in Dhaka's Mirpur area over consecutive days, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The demonstrations brought vehicular movement to a halt across multiple locations, including Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-12, and Kalshi, causing severe traffic congestion and delays for commuters. Protesters stated that their current earnings are insufficient to cover basic expenses like house rent and daily essentials amid rising costs. While factory management and police urged workers to return to work with assurances that wage discussions were ongoing with the BGMEA, government officials, and foreign buyers, protesters insisted they would continue their demonstrations until an official wage hike is announced.
