The full story
Tens of thousands of students and workers took to the streets across more than 40 cities in Italy during a nationwide general strike called by the grassroots union Unione Sindacale di Base (USB). In Turin, farmers dumped manure on streets, and police deployed water cannons against students and left-wing activists approaching security cordons around the prefecture building. Demonstrators vented their anger against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government, protesting soaring living costs, low wages, poor public services, and increased military spending. The Interior Ministry stated that preventative arrests were made ahead of the marches, though clashes with police still occurred in some locations.
