The full story
Garment workers in Gazipur's industrial belt launched continuous protests and highway blockades demanding higher pay. The demonstrations escalated when workers from Interstoff and other nearby factories took over the Chandra Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakair upazila, halting traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway. Protesters reported that current wages and decreased overtime opportunities make it impossible to cover basic living expenses, including rent, food, and children's education, while commodity prices rise. According to reports, workers clashed repeatedly with law enforcement agencies, resulting in injuries and property damage. Police and industrial authorities attempted to negotiate with the crowd and persuade them to clear the road, while several factories declared holidays to control the situation.
