The full story
Residents of the Lower Ormeau Road area in Belfast have applied to hold a protest involving up to 1,500 people on November 7, 2026. The planned demonstration is a response to an application by the Belfast Walker Club (Apprentice Boys) to march 80 participants and one band along the Ormeau Road to Donegall Pass. Organisers from the Lower Ormeau Concerned Community stated they submitted the counter-demonstration application due to concerns over recent decisions by the Parades Commission regarding contentious parading routes. The proposed parade route passes the scene of the 1992 Sean Graham bookmaker's massacre, where five people were murdered. Local representatives, including Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey, called on the Parades Commission to restrict the march and maintain existing prohibitions. The Parades Commission is scheduled to consider the applications.
