The full story

On October 4, 2026, journalists and activists began a protest outside the Parliament Street police station in Delhi, continuing through October 5. They demanded the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat, who was accused of sexually harassing a woman journalist during an October 3 protest at Jantar Mantar. Protesters also sought an inquiry into the allegations and examination of CCTV footage. On October 5, Delhi Police detained 17 protesters, including one of the complainants, citing prohibitory orders. Police registered an FIR against the detained protesters, alleging unlawful assembly and damage to property. Later that night, a Patiala House court granted conditional bail to all 17 individuals.
