The full story
On October 30, 2026, approximately 35 Tibetan activists-in-exile launched a peace march from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, to Kurukshetra, Haryana. The initiative is organised by five Tibetan non-governmental organisations: U-Tsang Cholkha, Dhotoe Cholkha, Dhomay Cholkha, the Tibetan Women’s Association, and the Global Tibetan People’s Movement for Middle Way Approach. The march was inaugurated by Sikyong Penpa Tsering, President of the Central Tibetan Administration. Participants aim to raise international awareness regarding China’s 'Ethnic Unity and Progress Law,' which they argue is designed to eradicate Tibetan identity and fundamental rights. The legislation, adopted in March 2026, is scheduled to take effect on July 1. Following the march, activists intend to engage with embassies in New Delhi to advocate for the law's repeal. No official response from the Chinese government was reported in the sources.
