The full story
Garment workers in Savar and Ashulia staged protests and a strike to demand a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, an end to blacklisting, and other concessions. The demonstrations started when workers walked out of factories, spreading across multiple industrial areas and leading to attempts to block the Nabinagar-Chandra highway. Clashes broke out as protesters threw bricks at factories and police, while law enforcement responded with tear gas and water cannons. Authorities closed 264 factories in the region by declaring holidays or suspending operations. Police detained two individuals during the clashes, and a covered van was set on fire in Narsinghpur. The government alleged that instability was being fomented, while labour representatives urged workers to maintain peace as wage negotiations began.
