The full story

TVNZ staff members in Auckland walked off the job and picketed outside the broadcaster's downtown office for an hour. Organised by the E tū and PSA unions, the action marked the first time staff walked off the job in 20 years. Similar strikes also took place in Wellington and Christchurch. Workers stated they were striking for enough money to live on, citing that annual inflation at 3.7% made the company's 2.5% pay offer effectively a pay cut. TVNZ stated that it had been in constructive bargaining discussions since July and remained committed to a remuneration increase, but added that the unions' proposal exceeded what the company could sustain.
