The full story
Following the expiration of the collective bargaining peace obligation in the metal and electrical industry, the IG Metall union launched warning strikes across Lower Saxony, including Hildesheim. In Hildesheim, approximately 300 employees gathered outside the KSM Castings automotive supplier plant during a midnight assembly, with additional actions involving workers from Bosch and ZF. The union rejected an employer counter-offer featuring a one-time payment and a 1.3 percent wage increase starting in July 2028, denouncing it as a provocation and a recipe for real wage loss. The union demands a 5 percent pay increase over a twelve-month period. Employers through NiedersachsenMetall rejected the criticism, stating that the current economic situation does not allow for a higher offer.
